when you have a connecting flight, what do you do about luggage

when you have a connecting flight, what do you do about luggage?
So i'm going to be flying US airways from madison to las vegas with a connecting flight in chicago on the way there and in phoenix on the way back. I've never flown with a connecting flight before, nor have I ever flown alone (which i will be doing). My question is, when i stop in chicago, do i pick up my own luggage for the next flight or does the airline take care of putting it on the next plane? Is there anything else I should know about flying alone and connecting flights? thanks!!

NO YOU DONT PICK YOUR LUGAGE UP..ITS TAKEN TO THE CONNECTING PLANE BY THE BAG HANDLERS...DONT WORRY
2 :
U TELL THE FUCKIN AIRPLANE PPL TO DO IT FOR YOU, THATS WHAT YOURE PAYIN THOSE PRICES FOR LOL LOL LOL.......
3 :
They handle it for you. If there is any considerable layover, keep track of time zones and be aware of the current time at the airport where you are stopping over so you don't miss your flight. Remember there are four time zones and they are each an hour apart from their adjacent time zones so, for example, when it's 12 noon on the East coast, it's 9 am on the West Coast. It's always earlier in the West (left side) and later in the East (right) side.
4 :
The airline will take care of your luggage which should arrive at the airport at your destination (Las Vegas). When connecting flights, the airline help desk near the gate will help you any way should you have any questions. The main thing I have found when connecting flights is finding the gate for my plane. Gates at airports are marked well and there are maps showing directions. Hope this helps you some, just relax and enjoy your trip and vacation.
5 :
it'll be automatically transferred to the connecting flight so you needn't worry

Do any planes take off after 10 pm from LAX to Phoenix

Do any planes take off after 10 pm from LAX to Phoenix?
My son arrives at LAX at 9:10pm from Taipei, The latest flight I can find leaves LAX at 9:34 pm. 25 minutes is pushing it since the flight could be a little late coming from Taipei. Are there any flights after 10pm, I can't find any. Otherwise he will have to wait till 6am for a flight. Does anyone know of an airline flying from lax to Phoenix between 10 pm and 2am?
Phoenix - 1 Answers

You are correct. Your son will have to clear customs at LAX, and that will make getting on a connecting flight in less than 25 minutes nearly impossible. There are no flights to Phoenix between 10:00 pm, and 6:00 am. The two earliest flights out of LAX to Phoenix are at 6:30 am on U.S Airways Flight #183 (an Airbus 321), or at 6:33 am on United Flight #6463 (a Canadair CRJ 700)

How long is a flight from Orlando, Florida to Seattle, Washington

How long is a flight from Orlando, Florida to Seattle, Washington?
I was looking at "cheap flights from Orlando to Seattle" for my boyfriend's next visit, and found this schedule: Alaska Airlines: May 18th, 2010. Depart at 8:30AM, arrive 11:30AM. I have just currently flown from Seattle, Washington ON Alaska Airlines to Phoenix, Arizona and it took me 2 1/2 hours. Why would it be 30 minutes more when Arizona is 3 states away from me, and Florida is far more? Does this mean my boyfriend's flight would be overnight?

From what I checked via Southwest airlines, a trip from Orlando, FL to Seattle, WA is rough approx, 8-11 hours. Depends on the flight you take, route they take etc. Also dont forget they add the stop times and layover times as well. So the initial flight may only be 2 hours, but if the flight has you scheduled to have an hour layover at a stopping airport, then the travel time estimated will go up to 3 hours. So dont forget about layovers. Some flights go different routes than others. In a week Im going to Nashville, Tn from OKC, Oklahoma. They had different flights. One would take me to Dallas Tx, then to Nashville. The flight I chose is only 5 hours and will take me to Denver, CO then to Nashville rather than flying south to TX. Each flight had different flight times. (IE one was under 4 hours, one was 5 hours) Oklahoma isnt but 2 states away from TN yet its taking me 5 hours. Only because Ill be laid over in Denver for over an hour. Thus adding to my flight time. BTW Southwest has some pretty cheap flights. Last minute flight leaving tomorrow from Orlando to Seattle is 294 bucks online.
2 :
Kathryn - There is this thing called "time zones" that adjust the time as you go from east to west. In Phoenix Arizona the time zone is Mountain US, one hour ahead of Seattle (Pacific US) time. Orlando, Florida on the other hand is three hours ahead of Seattle. So the flight is not taking three hours it is taking 6 hours (accounting for the time change) - You really leave at 5:30 AM Seattle time and arrive at 11:30 AM Seattle time. You "gain" three hours going East to west and then lose those three hours going back to Orlando.
3 :
Hi I flew to Orlando in September from Seattle. On the way home we had a direct flight. The direct flight was six hours. We left Orlando at 6:00pm which is 3:00pm in Seattle and arrived in Seattle at 9:00pm

Can you book multiple flights on the same day

Can you book multiple flights on the same day?
Example if flying from Syracuse to Phoenix, if cheaper to book seperate like book a flight from Syracuse to JFK, then book a flight from JFK to LAX, then book a flight from LAX to Phoenix.
Air Travel - 5 Answers

1 :
Yes, you can book as many flights as you wish, and plan your own trip. Just remember that if you miss a leg of your trip, the airline is not obligated to put you on another plane.
2 :
Well 9 times out of 10 its more expensive but if its cheaper go for it. Keep in mind that you will then have to do that for the way back.
3 :
I BELIEVE YOU CAN
4 :
You can, but you should heed the advice of dances-with-unicorns1955. When you book each leg separately, each carrier's obligation ends when they get you to the destination you have booked with them. You can reduce your risk in two ways. First, pay for a class of ticket that gives you flexibility to transfer it to another flight. My normal carrier offers a discount ticket that can be transferred for an extra charge. If something goes wrong, there is still an option to change. This ticket is more expensive than the absolutely cheapest discount fares, but you cannot transfer them. Second, you can take out travel insurance. If you do this, be sure to check the details. I recently travelled overseas, and covered the risk with insurance, or so I thought. I organized a side trip, and the return flight was delayed. The insurer denied the claim because I had not left a minimum of six hours between the scheduled arrival of the first flight and scheduled departure of the second flight. Clearly all this adds to the total cost, and you might find that they then exceed the cheapest single booking price!
5 :
Of course you can. Might not be the cheapest, but you may end up with a lot of problems: 1) miss a connection and the airline have absolutely NO obligation to put you on another flight, unless you pay for it 2)Luggage: you HAVE TO check your luggage EACH time (which means you have to go to baggage claims, wait for the carousel which may take 30 minutes or more easily at JFK, schlepping your luggage from another terminal to another, etc, etc.,..) 3)You HAVE TO go thru security at each airport Is it worth it???? Don't think so !!!

Can I bring a school backpack and a duffle bag onto a us airways flight?
I don't want to check anything if I can avoid it. The duffle bag is ruffly 10x10x21 inches and the backpack is 17x13x11 inches. I'm flying from Phoenix to Charlotte and then from Charlotte to Guatemala City. I'm not sure if it matters if it's an international flight. Thanks

one carry on only combine the two
2 :
that should be fine. i've seen people with more than that on us airways flights
3 :
I've done this before without any problems (on an international flight, too). Most airlines let you have a carry-on allowance (your duffel) as well as one other thing (backpack, purse, laptop bag, briefcase, etc). You should be fine. Its better to carry it all on...checking bags just leads to problems.
4 :
usually they will allow you one carry on size bag and a purse, computer, briefcase, or small tote so probably but check the airlines website or call them to be sure.
5 :
You can carry on 1 bag and 1 personal item ... your duffel bag is your carry on & the backpack is your personal item. Personal items include briefcases, purses, backpacks (school size, NOT hiking!), tote bags, cosmetic bags. When I travel, I take on a 22" roller bag and a totebag that holds my purse, cosmetics, magazines, & dvd player.
6 :
You should be fine to do that...unless you get an incredibly anal flight attendant.

Im going from phoenix to san diego for christmas and i dreadfully hate flight take offs but i don't know if one hour is a long enough time to take this kind of medication and have it work and i don't want to be all drugged up by the time i get off the plane so is this advised?

yea just take it like a half hour before your flight i have to take it before certain doctors visits because i get really bad anxiety. are you driving wwhen you get to your destination???you might want to have someone pick you up or take a cab
2 :
Ask your Doctor or Pharmacist. I would suggest medicating only as a last resort in extreme cases of Phobia. As a Flight Attendant, I am aware that sedation can impair your judgement in cases of emergency or evacuation. It's all about safety. Consider looking into other ways of dealing with your fears. A one hour flight is not very long. Would you rather drive?
3 :
Talk to your doctor and ask him or her specifically if it could impare your ability to function normally. I shouldn't mention emergency evacuations but that's what my concern is. Please note that I've been a passenger since I was 8 weeks old and was a Flight Attendant for 13 years and I have never come close to doing an emergency evacution of any kind. Although it's extremely unlikely, you would need to be able to move fast on your feet. I've never taken Ativan but I have taken Valium. I have no idea if it's at all the same type of drug but I can say that I was not able to walk well with it in my system. I took it on the ground for a pulled mustle on vacation. I was very glad I didn't have to go anywhere or do anything with it cursing through my blood stream! ALL drugs are stronger in the air, so be aware of that and remind you doctor of the same (yes, they need to be reminded sometimes ;). A possible solution is a half dose or perhaps another medication would work better. I'm also concerned with the timing, especially if there's a delay. There is another niggly point is that if it's still in your system when you arrive, are you going to be okay with your baggage, tramping around the airport and perhaps even driving when you get there? Airports are not the best places to be when you're drowsy or tired. http://www.drugs.com/ativan.html Most flying phobias are connected to control issues. The majority of people know logically that flying in the industrailized world is safe. It has to do with putting your trust in that machine, not seeing in front of you and not being able to control where you're going or how is what puts otherwise sane people off kilter. If it's only take-offs that mess you up, try breathing techniques or other visualization exercises. I have a totally unrelated phobia so I have learned to stop and breathe when it hits. At least I can relate to flying phobias myself, although I'm comfortable in the air. If you really can't handle flying, consider driving. You are lucky that it is a realistic option. But a short flight like this might help you overcome this. I believe in the confrontation-technique to battling phobias since it worked for me so well. I have a friend who can't go on any sort of interesting vacation. Her family is quite bitter and it upsets her. Overcome this now and you can relax next time you book... Good luck

What airline should I apply for to become a flight attendant

What airline should I apply for to become a flight attendant?
I have an interview with skywest airlines on tuesday the 18th. The only potential problem is that they are based out of Tuscon and I live in Phoenix. If they happen to give me Tuscon, will if be difficult to commute by flight to work everyday?? Looking for a flight attendant with experience to help me out. Also, how long of a time from after training are you given to relocate to your assigned city/base? I found it a little odd that you find out where you relocate 'after' training...??? In addition, what airline should I apply for if I'm looking to be based out of phoenix or southern california? I have applied with southwest and I was denied the position, more than likely because I wasn't recruited for the interview to begin wiht (ooops). Thanks for the help! PS I'm a 21 year old female if that info is somewhow relevant.

If you think you're qualified to become a flight attendant and willing to work in a domestic or international airline then apply to where there's vacancy. If you get the job, transfer your residence to a place nearest your base.
2 :
A flight attendant you must relocate, no choice. Only USAIr in based in Phoenix. If you want to be a flight attendant, you HAVE TO be flexible as where to live and time of work.
3 :
I have been a f/a with AmericanAirlines for several years. You have GOT to be extremely flexible to work in this position. It is not as glamorous as it may seem. Everything in the airlines is based on seniority and as a new hire you will have none. You have to be willing to go where they say.. PERIOD. Your life will not be your own for the first year or so but once you get some seniority you'll have more choices as to where you fly, where you're based, etc. If you're lucky enough to get based in AZ you can drive from PHX to TUS. I drive 2 and a half hrs to the airport for my trips. Bear in mind this is not your typical 9-5 job. I think you need to find out much more about what the job entails before commiting to it.
4 :
Mesa Airlines also has a base in Phoenix. Keep in mind that you may not get the base you want in training, and should be prepared to commute or relocate until you you get it. Commuting is hard work, and will make your work days longer and can cost you additional expense. If your commute flight is late, and you miss your working flight, you will eventually get fired, even if the late flight is on your own airline. Expenses of commuting, including gas, food, hotels, rental cars, etc. are not reimbursed by your airline. As far as your airline is concerned, all their commuters "live" at their base city.

How do I go about shipping my dog from Phoenix Arizona to Anchorage Alaska

How do I go about shipping my dog from Phoenix Arizona to Anchorage Alaska?
I've purchased a dog from a breeder in phoenix and need to have her shipped via continental airlin to ANchorage Alaska. I checked the airlines for flights, and they have one available. Now all I need to know is on little thing; how do I register my breeders to officially drop her off and check her into the flight?
Dogs - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If your breeder was legit, they would be assisting you with the arrangements. I'd be very careful. Many of these Internet transactions are scams. There's a good chance the puppy you get is not the one you've seen, it won't be healthy or there will be no puppy at all. It happens a lot. If you can still back out, I would.
2 :
you should have thoroughly investigated this breeder before you purchased the pup. I had dogs shippped in years ago and it was basically co-ordinated through phone calls. if this is a reputable breeder, HE should be able to provide you with all of this info. Just please be aware that you aren't being scammed. good luck - make sure you take the dog to the vet immediately after you get it.
3 :
Just FYI Alaska Airlines would offer more flexibility for arrival and depature times for shipping your pooch. You can ship the dog by their Animal Express service. You can set it up so that the breeder will drop them off and you can pick them up in ANC. When you book it over the phone I believe you can even pay for it over the phone (not 100% sure on that). Anyway, here is the web address for information pertaining to shipping live animals on Alaska Airlines: http://www.alaskaair.com/as/www2/cargo/Transporting-Live-Animals.asp Good Luck!
4 :
Why are you asking this here? You need to call the airline and discuss this with them. Be sure to keep track of who you have talked to. People fly unaccompained minors (childern) all the time. The procedures for unacompianed pets is the very same thing - except the pet goes in the luggage area - and they have a different rate. Last - you might not be able to ship this dog in one trip. It all depends on how long the delays are between the start and destination terminals. There are both federal and state animal protection laws that govern how long an animal can be in transit. If the delay between connecting flights is too long - the airline will not allow you to book it - not unless it gets picked up - in say Seattle - and then put back into the system a few hours later by someone who has taken care of it. You need to be discussing this with the airlines. DO NOT let the breeder make the reservations!!!! No doubt they have ZERO experience shipping to Alaska. If something goes wrong with the flight or schedule - YOU need to be the one who made the reservation and has the authority to make changes. Not the seller. Hope this helps.

The Constitution says that state government can not interfere with interstate commerce, so they can not tell Southwest airline where the can not fly. The can only tell state employers where the can or can not travel to using state money. Some organizations are moving the site of their conventions because of this law, so it is sure to hurt their economy somewhat. The Mayor and business organizations in Phoenix are very unhappy about it.

I would highly recommend both hotwire and priceline, with cheaptickets comping in a close third. I've searched around for airfare quite a bit, and these three sites usually ring true as the cheapest. Other than that, I'd go to sites like igougo.com, travelzoo.com, or bookingbuddy.com. These sites offer searches of multiple online airfare websites, making it easier and less time consuming to compare prices. As for when to buy, I usually go to farecast.com. They pretty accurately predict when a good time to buy a flight would be based off of past and current trends, etc. It's pretty useful. Another site I've found handy is rightflight.org. They did a bunch of research on the various airfare sites to see which sites are usually the cheapest. They also have a list of most of the airfare sites on their webpage, which can be pretty handy in and of itself. Hope this helped!

Does anyone think that Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport will get more flights to Europe and Asia

Does anyone think that Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport will get more flights to Europe and Asia?
Does anyone think that Phoenix will get non-stop service to Tokoyo,Japan;China;Paris, France or London Heathrow. PHX already has one non-stop flight a day on British Airways to Heathrow. For a city of almost 4 million PHX is very underserved with long distance international flights. Hopefully US Airways or another company will consider these flights

No probably not. US Airways will keep its International Flying in Philadelphia and Charlotte. PHX is a big city and a big airport but the demand for daily flights to Europe is not there except for BA flight to London. PHX is not a large international business centre and it does not get many international tourist either. There is just no demand and without the high paying business travelers you wont see many international flights across the Pacific or Atlantic. Be grateful that BA even serves the airport. Maybe US will start a flight to Frankfurt, Paris or London on day buts it. I dont see US Airways flying to Asia any time soon either.

Is there anyway to book a flight, and get the same flight as a previously purchased ticket

Is there anyway to book a flight, and get the same flight as a previously purchased ticket?
I have a flight booked for Nov 5th, from Porto, Portugal (opo) to Phoenix, az (phx) via Lufthansa. And I want to know if I could buy a second ticket for someone else, to fly with me. Is it possible to get them to fly the same flight, and possibly same row?
Air Travel - 4 Answers

1 :
Yes. The airline (talk to a human) or any travel agent can arrange that.
2 :
Yes, no problem. Either phone the airline or get onto their website. You will need the details of your original booking. The ticket confirmation number or the flight number and date of departure and return. Getting seats together will be best achieved by speaking to Lufthansa direct. You may get a better deal financially by using their website and then speaking to their customer service re seating.
3 :
If there is a seat available on that flight, then there won't be any problem booking it. You can organise seats together then checking in, either on-line or at the airport.
4 :
Dear, You can book the ticket in same flight and can get the seat in same row, as the seats are allocated at the time of check in , when you both check in at the same time you can tell the attendant to allocate the seat as you wish.

What happens if I miss my connecting flight

What happens if I miss my connecting flight?
I am flying back from Norway to Phoenix in 3 weeks but there is a connecting flight in Newark. Instead of going back to PHX, I'd rather get off during the 5 hour layover in EWR and stay there for a few days. I would make arrangements to get back to PHX on my own, but since I have checked bags, would they go straight to PHX even with that long of a layover and would I be charged anything extra? I'm flying Continental btw. Help!

Immediately contact reservations 800.523.FARE (800.523.3273) A $20 fee applies to tickets purchased by telephone or at a ticket office.
2 :
Well these days they will not put your bags on a flight if you don't get aboard (or they will take them off). So your bags will not go on to Phx. You should contact the airline and see what is happening with your bags. Normally with an international flight, and if you go through customs, you will have to collect your bags. Otherwise you will have to change your flight plans so you can collect your bags.
3 :
If you have a through ticket you bags will end up at your final destination.
4 :
Your baggage is likely to go all the way to PHX, unless you intervene and change your booking, you could either cancel your onward journey from EWR to PHX, or ask for an extension to the travel date, either could come with a charge, the 1st because your complete trip would be cheaper than stopping at EWR (crazy I know but possible), or 2nd a later date to PHX, could be more expensive than your original booking, and you would also get a change fee too.
5 :
Since Continental is in Star Alliance, they will probaly put you on another flight in that alliance to your destination.

layer but comfy cloths. you never know when you will get hot but you ended up wearing something really heavy. that's why if you layer, you can take something off if you get hot and you can put something on if you get cold. bring a light jacket though so you can keep warm on the plane, they do tend to get cold.
5 :
Sorry but..whats wrong with sweats? Its comfy, and your sitting for like 7 hours on a plane. You can always change into something cute when you get to the airport

How often do you drink alcohol

How often do you drink alcohol?
I've just watched the original movie "Flight of the Phoenix" from 1965, in which one of the main characters, who plays an alcoholic, boasts to have gone "without a drink for 17 days" - and I thought "hm, that's pretty long these days even for someone who doesn't have an alcohol problem... " or not? How often do you drink? Just curious now...

I am proud to say this: NEVER
2 :
Not in 12 very grateful years.
3 :
I used to have a small glass or two of wine almost every day with dinner, but now I haven't had any for a month or two. And I think for some people all alcohol is for celebrations only.
4 :
i don't touch the stuff
5 :
Never. Not anymore.
6 :
two or three times a month
7 :
I HAVE A BOTTLE OF WINE EVERY FEW MONTHS. DRANK ONE AND HAVEN'T OPENED THE NEW ONE YET. NOT A BIG DRINKER, I'M TOO CHEAP. BUT I COULD BE, SO I WATCH IT.
8 :
Unfortunately, not for many years!! I WOULD have a drink once in a while if I could, but I developed an allergy to alcohol or some other component of alcoholic beverages. I've tried a few different types but always became VERY ill just moments after ingesting the drink. So now I don't bother.....
9 :
Half a glass of wine with dinner maybe once or twice a year.
10 :
I don't drink at all. Had my share of hangovers and bad moods and consequences because of alcohol. I decided to stop about a year ago without any need for rehab or AA or anything crazy. It's just unhealthy to consume alcohol so why do it?
11 :
I dont touch Alcohol.
12 :
Every day. Everything in moderation.
13 :
Just once or twice in the weekend, but not that much you know, like........well mmmmmm.
14 :
Every few months.
15 :
I am 20. I have the occasional one or two beers during the WEEK, if at all during the week (I'm a social drinker). But on the weekends I usually drink both Friday & Saturday, infact, i can't remember a weekend I went without drinking except for when I was on antibiotics. I guess I just like to party. I usually don't get plastered (although, sometimes I do), most of the time I drink enough to get a really great buzz going on. Well thats what i think it is, but then I realize that it was more than a buzz the next morning. Wow, is that bad?
16 :
never and will be never. 'coz what? because alcohol won't solve your problem, but will increase yours. some people said that alcohol just delay your problem, but for me, you are in trouble and will get much...much...much... trouble. don't believe? plase ask the doctor for detail what alcohol do to your body. thank you
17 :
when i was 14 i would want to drink almost every weekend but now that I'm older (26) i don't have the urge to drink at all

In Twilight's first chapter, do they tell you about the time when Bella meets Charlie

In Twilight's first chapter, do they tell you about the time when Bella meets Charlie?
I have this e-book for Twilight. I'm not sure the first chapter goes this way. "It's a four hour flight from Phoenix to Seattle" "Charlie was waiting for me in the cruiser" I thought the first chapter was all about her mom and her moving :S
Books & Authors - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
half the chapter is her mum half is her dad
2 :
Really? And here I thought all the chapters were about bull****. Silly me.
3 :
Is this a legal e-book? In the beginning you see her say good-bye and leave and then Charlie picks her up. Check whether it's legal, if it's not then that's why. ~~SKS
4 :
No, in the begining she's leaving her mom. and at the end she's with her dad. Hope i helped:)
5 :
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5297053/1/Twilight_Condensed
6 :
Kind of... Okay, the first "chapter" is really a half page-long prologue about Bella talking about how James, the villain, was going to kill her. It then goes on to the first chapter and spends about three pages with Bella and her mom, driving to the airport. Bella is explaining why she's moving to Forks and how she and her mom had to pull some extra money out to fill Bella's wardrobe with clothes for up north. She gets anxious about her mom being scatter-brained, the new husband is mentioned, and that's about it. The airport scene is about a sentence or so long. It's a very straight-forward move from state to state, city to city. Then suddenly she's with Charlie for the remaining chapter. From the airport, to the ride home, to her observing how Charlie hadn't much changed the house, to her new room, to going to bed crying... I think. That's, summing it up, the first chapter. If your e-book already starts off with her being on the airplane and then with Charlie, there was a mistake in its transaction/download. I've never bought an e-book, so I wouldn't know what the technical difficulties are in downloading one and stuff. Here's to hoping you didn't get cheated from your purchase in some way. You can always ask for a refund or that this be corrected, at least. Good luck! =)
7 :
in the first chapter the beginning of it is about bella saying goodbye to her mom and leaving pheonix. she says her goodbyes to her mom and gets on the plane and then it moves onto bella arriving in forks.

Go to Southwest.com. :) I think you can get $99 each way depending on how much notice you give, and the day of the week that you fly. Since it's Orange County, you may even get a special online deal of $69 each way. :) With tax, the $99 each way deal will be approx $230 after tax. The $69 deal will be about $150 after tax. Both round-trip. Good luck!
2 :
Southwest is usually cheapest at $49 to $69 each way depending on the season. Right now, Travelocity is advertising $85 R/T.

No, they were not treated fairly. I am not sure how that can be misconstrued to them somehow breaking the law.
2 :
It does not sound as if they were treated fairly. Keep in mind that the Washington Times is a biased conservative and somewhat trashy newspaper so I would not consider it fair and balanced (although it's not as bad as some newspapers)
3 :
No. True, they did not use good judgment-------but, they did nothing wrong. And, who knows the true story-different newspapers said different things. One said an Arabic speaking man turned them in because of their conversation-but, I only heard that once. Why wasn't it made well known? There were too many rumors (even by the newspapers) for us to make a call on it.
4 :
Give me a break - of course they should be tried! We live in a Post-911 world now and that sort of BEHAVIOR is not acceptable anymore. The PC crowd should wise-up and ask what they would want done if they were ont he same flight as suspicious acting Imans. I know I would either get off the flight or demand a more serious security check for them before boarding. Disrupting hundereds of passengers by this behavior is not acceptable. It is also not acceptable to yell 'Fire' in a crowded theater - this too is punishable by law.

Are there any bus lines that travel to the Grand Canyon from Phoenix

Are there any bus lines that travel to the Grand Canyon from Phoenix?
My flight arrives at Sky Harbour Airport in Phoenix at 11:10PM on July 30, 2010. I'll be staying at a local motel/hotel overnight in Phoenix. Are there any Bus Lines that go to Grand Canyon Village from Phoenix?

Sure. Type "Phoenix to Grand Canyon Tours" in you browser, and you'll find several pages of tour operators offering tours from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. Is you're asking about Greyhound, the closest it will take you is to Flagstaff.
2 :
Greyhound to Flagstaff, but you still have to get to the Grand Canyon. I agree with the first answer: Best to find a bus tour to Grand Canyon from Phoenix, or from Flagstaff.
3 :
you are not giving yourself enough time to get to your hotel, get sleep, clean up, catch bus to the canyon and be back the same day and not be exhausted. IT is a fair drive from PHX to the canyon; do NOT do it in 1 day. [re-phrased, allocate at least 3 days in PHX to visit the Canyon and still make connections to go out of state!![

Sleep or no sleep for plane

Sleep or no sleep for plane?
Tomorrow I am going on a 5 hour flight from Phoenix to Boston. I will have my ipod video. With hours of music anf a few movies. But what should I do? Tonight, should i get a good sleep? Or stay stay up late. Flight is at 10am. Need to leave by 7 ish though. I don't have to do anything later that night.
Air Travel - 6 Answers

1 :
Try not to change your normal sleep patterns, if you can help it. You don't want to arrive at your destination too tired to do anything. If you need to make an adjustment, do it after you arrive. It may be that you will feel like a nap, sometime during the day, or just a good night's sleep that evening.
2 :
Sleep at night so your awake at the airport, and the plane noises should make you sleepy anyways. so if you have an annoying person next to you, you can just start snoring.
3 :
I'd go to sleep late and wake up earlier than you wanted. Waiting there in the airport will make you tired enough to sleep on the plane without feeling to jet lagged when you arrive in Boston.
4 :
If I were you, I wouldn't disrupt your regular sleep routine. Get a good nights sleep, but if you feel like napping on the flight, go ahead and do so. No matter how much sleep I get the night before I have to travel, I always end up sleeping on the plane anyway!
5 :
Your flight is a short one. Don't do anything different. The time change will get you to bed at a decent hour and you can start your next day normally.
6 :
I would just follow normal routine regarding sleep, until your flight. If you want to fall asleep during the flight, maybe some typically hectic airport activity and luggage hauling would put you in a mood to sleep once you've finally seated in the plane.

Wanna hear some Funny In Flight Announcements

Wanna hear some Funny In Flight Announcements?
1. "As you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses." 2. "Last one off the plane must clean it." 3. After landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride." 4. As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. Whoa!" 5. After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted." 6. From a Southwest Airlines employee: "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child travelling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with two small children, decide now which one you love more." 7. "Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you or your money more than Southwest Airlines." 8. "Your seat cushions can be used for flotation. In the event of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments." 9. From a Southwest Airlines employee: "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only four ways out of this airplane." 10. Pilot: "Folks, we have reached our cruising altitude now, so I am going to switch the seat belt sign off. Feel free to move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till we land. It's a bit cold outside, and if you walk on the wings it affects the flight pattern." 11. From the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately none of them are on this flight." 12. This was overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final approach, the captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the flight attendant came on the PA and announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!" 13. Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal." 14. An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a, "Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally, everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, did we land or were we shot down?" 15. After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the flight attendant got on the PA and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and the crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt up against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal." 16. Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at US Airways."

A friend of mine had this experience. The old Stapleton airport in Denver was a hard place to land because of the winds in the mountains. My friend said that when landing there, in bad weather, the plane hit the ground and bounced back in the to come down hard again. When the plane was on the ground and taxing to the terminal the pilot came on with this comment "Ladies and gentlemen we have just landed at Denver's Stapleton airport, twice."

A quick search on Kayak.com confirms that Phoenix indeed has direct flights to Fort Lauderdale as well as Miami.
2 :
According to Amadeus (a large GDS - global distribution system - the kind of system that travel agents and airlines use), there is one non-stop flight daily from Phoenix (PHX) to Miami (MIA) - with American Airlines (AA). From PHX to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), there are two of daily non-stop flights with US Airways (US). Direct flights are generally more convenient than connections, although you may find a cheaper fare by making a change of planes en route. On a non-stop flight, there's also less chance of your checked luggage going astray. I chose a random date (29 April) for schedule information.

I have a flight on the 3rd, and it says 'one stop' in Phoenix...But I don't switch planes? Why?
On September 3rd, I fly from Detroit to San Fran but my itinerary says the plane makes one stop in Phoenix but it doesn't say anything about me changing planes...So do we just sit on the plane for that extra hour and 17 minutes? What happens?

1 :
They stop to pick up passengers, fill the tanks, and sometimes to change crews.
2 :
It depends on if the crew is continuing on or if you are getting a new crew in phoenix during the layover. If you are getting a new crew in phoenix you will have to disembark the plane and hang out in the airport for the layover, if the crew is staying on for the second leg you will be staying on the plane while the phoenix travelers disembark and the san fran travelers load up.
3 :
Yes, usually you just sit on board while new passengers board, or some get off. It usually won't take long, unless specified. If the layover is long, they might let you get off and walk around, but usually not. You can ask for clarification when you check in. Have a good trip.
4 :
Well you can get off the plane with everyone else, stretch your legs, walk around, just get back on the plane. They're probably refilling the tanks and fixing things and new passengers are replacing the old ones. If it says the same flight then I guess you stay on it, but if youre super paranoid then ask a flight attendant or someone like that.
5 :
They should let you deplane. It could be for refueling, pilot flight hour limitations or to take on more passengers or release those few who are going to Phoenix.
6 :
It's called a "through" flight, meaning the "flight number" remains the same. Actually many people are fooled by a through flight. Some think it's non-stop, others think they don't change planes. Actually you could change planes, I even seen people change concourses on a through flight. I wish airlines would do away with "through" flights, they cause much more confusion than they are worth.

The aircraft that you will be on will fly from Detroit to Phoenix, unload and load passengers, and go on to San Francisco. You will be allowed to deplane and walk around and reboard the aircraft and then fly on to San Francisco. You can just sit and wait in your seat if you wish. While in Phoenix, the aircraft will unload and load passengers involved with Phoenix. It will also be fueled and the cargo and baggage for the Phoenix passengers will be unloaded, and loaded again with San Francisco cargo and baggage. Having the aircraft stop in Phoenix allows the aircraft to serve two cities from Detroit. Most flights, in fact, serve more than one city. Back in the 1960's, Eastern Airlines had a flight that left Detroit about 5AM and flew to Cleveland, Akron, Charleston, WV, and went on to every city that Eastern served between Charleston and Miami. The aircraft made 22 stops between Detroit and Miami. The aircraft used was a Convair 340, a twin-engine propeller-driven aircraft that held about 40 people. It was scheduled to arrive in Miami at 10PM. Those were the days! Regards, Dan

How many hours of flying from Ohio to Cuidad Obregon, Mexico

How many hours of flying from Ohio to Cuidad Obregon, Mexico?
I know this is an odd question, I've been told it's 3 connecting flights through Phoenix, but I'm just curious how many hours actually in the air it would be.

Why are flights to and from Little Rock, AR so pricey? Are there other airports in the area I should check

Why are flights to and from Little Rock, AR so pricey? Are there other airports in the area I should check?
While researching possible relocation I noticed that flights to Phoenix, Detroit, Nashville, Memphis, Vegas are extremely high. Almost none of these flights offer non-stop service which I don't understand. Being from Detroit a flight from here to Chicago is about $70 yet a flight from Little Rock to Memphis (about the same distance) is almost $300.

Did you try cheaptickets.com? I know that if you book early you can get some really good prices
2 :
smaller town=lesser competition. Did you try Southwest?
3 :
Many more travelers and demand to Detroit and Chicago especially with business travel. Little Rock to Memphis, not so much. No demand, No competition really, limited flights, higher prices....always. Are you booking in advance at all? Without being at work I can't look at fares to and from these cities and don't know your dates. Put it this way flights to places that no one goes to unless they live there or visiting family prices are always more expensive. Don't wait last min. to you will be disappointed when you see the price EVEN more. Online or not, travel is changing and Vegas isn't going to be as "cheap" as consumers are used to seeing it. Basically it is coming down to where either you pay the price or you don't go. Simple as that. It will take a while to retrain people, but if you want to go places then well like I said many things are changing......these airlines HAVE to get out of bankruptcy and by giving consumers last min. deals isn't the way to do it.
4 :
That is a pretty crazy price for the flight from Little Rock to Memphis, and it would be such a waste to spend the money since the drive is less than 2 hours on the interstate. Make sure you check out southwest airlines and the cheapies that you see on tv like orbitz and travelocity.
5 :
Many of the airlines hubs are in those cities. One thing you might try is to book a flight from say Detroit to Miami with a connection in Little Rock and just not take the second flight. Alot of times this is actually cheaper than flying into a hub location. I live in Memphis where Northwest's Hub is and they are the costliest to fly in town.

First and the last time flying with US Airways.

First and the last time flying with US Airways.?
I was taking a flight from Austin, TX to San Francisco, CA. The flight from Austin was delayed on the runway for about half an hour. When connecting flight in Phoenix, I was running for about 10 minutes to the gate and just to be informed that the plane was gone??!!! They gave me a seat on the next flight to SF next to an emergency door. I arrived in SF three hours late. Imagine this is a business trip and the meeting takes place an hour after your arrival. It will screw up your business.

I have flown with them once before to Chicago, and they were awful. Somehow I didn't check my bags in time even though I was an hour early... I tried to get a flight back to Jacksonville, FL, they didn't have one till the morning. I told them I'd fly to Orlando or even Tampa, they said they had nothing. I found out from ANOTHER AIRLINE that Airways had a flight to Orlando later that night that wasn't full. I tried to get that flight, they said I was too late...??? I took the morning flight, and the guy had the nerve to put on my ticket to get security checked...WOWZA.
2 :
Well.........think of it this way........if the aircraft was delayed there was a reason........it would much rather be late then hit the earth in a aluminum can going 600 mph....that would reall screw up your business...........
3 :
Why would you ever take a flight that would arrive in your destination city only an hour before an important meeting? Delays are common for a variety fo reasons..weather, mechanical problems. You should allow more leeway in your schedule. These kinds of things happen on all the airlines.
4 :
Think about this for a second. Sure, it may be frustrating, but airline buisness is PLUMMETING because of 9/11. More then you think. Did you hear about how US Airways make a huge cutback? So now, when you're flying with them, you're pilot on one flight may be the same on another flight. And when that flight is late, when the pilot gets there, they won't wait for you. So yeah, its frustrating, but when you fly, you have to be prepared for delays. They almost ALWAYS happen.
5 :
If you are going to change airlines every time you experience a delay, then you're going to eventually run out of airlines to choose from. As much as we don't want it to happen to us, airlines experience delays on a daily basis for all sorts of reasons. In your instance, US did everything it could for you (short of holding a flight so you could make a connection, which they won't do because it then inconveniences dozens of other people).
6 :
Planning a meeting one hour after arriving on a flight is pretty poor planning. If you run your business that way you'll fail miserably.

question about flying to grand canyon

question about flying to grand canyon?
Ok well we are planning our summer vacation and considering the grand canyon. I went on orbitz.com and the only choices I was given to fly to was Yuma (YUM) flights Page (PGA) flights Phoenix (PHX) flights Kingman (IGM) flights Tucson (TUS) flights Flagstaff (FLG) flights Prescott (PRC) flights Bullhead City (IFP) flights Where do I want to land in Arizona so I am close to the national park where the grand canyon is in?

Flagstaff is the closest. But it will be a small airport. Many people fly into Las Vegas or Phoenix and drive from there.
2 :
When we went to the Grand Canyon, we flew to Phoenix and drove north. It's not that long of a ride. Flagstaff is closer. The other towns are small.
3 :
Tucson AZ is probably your best destination to get to the GC.
4 :
Call /e-mail Scenic Airlines and get a flight out of basically Las Vegas LAS The reason that I said basically is b/c although Scenic will provide transport from LAS they actually fly out of Boulder City http://www.scenic.com/ http://www.airnav.com/airport/KGCN It's pointless to fly FLG >GCN because it's about a 90 minute drive and you can't rent a car at GCN anyway Because of the expense involved and the minimal time savings of the PHX>FLG flight most Northern AZ locals just drive the 2.5 hrs Enjoy the Park
5 :
If you do decide to fly to the grand canyon, Flagstaff Pulliam airport is the closest. But it is small, the only commercial airline company that i can think of that lands there is Horizon. You can find their website under Alaskaair.com. They also have a budget and a hertz there. The drive to the Grand Canyon from Flagstaff is 1 1/2 hours. An even smaller airport is in Tusayan which is 10 minutes south of the Grand Canyon. It only caters to one airline that come in from Las Vegas only. The flight from Vegas is 1 hour. The company is called Scenic. But once you get to the Grand Canyon there are no rental places. And there is no way to rent a car at the Grand Canyon. But if you plan just to stay at the Grand Canyon and fly back with Scenic to Vegas you will be fine, there are taxis to get you to your hotel and shuttles buses to transport you around the park.

It's the way they water their fields, not what the fields grow.
2 :
This is produced by the way the fields are watered. A line carries water to the center, from which a very long plastic tube extends. The tube has many small holes on one side from which water is ejected, and the force of the water makes the tube move. The effect is to have it pivot around the center. From the air you see a circle of green. This was introduced in the 1970s as an efficient means of watering, although it does leave gaps.

Here is a pretty good resource http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/grand_canyon/national_park.html
2 :
Coming from Phoenix, your coming in on the South Side of the canyon. The best and cheapest places to stay are on the campgrounds within the park. However it is hard to get a reservation, so try and reserve a spot early. If your planning on doing a motel, the closest, cheapest ones are probably Flagstaff AZ. There are no real other near by cities and a few mom and pop motels that are a bit closer, but Flagstaff is your best option. If you want to spend the money, go to the Grand Canyon airport and buy a sightseeing tour. The plane has large glass windows and flies over an extended portion of the canyon. Views like none other. Helicoptor rides are ok, but only cover a small area, where the plane cover larger areas, and you can plug headsets in to hear the guide in different languages. Otherwise anthing on the south rim for hiking is worthwhile.
3 :
The drive from Phoenix is approximately 235 miles if you take 17 north to 40 west to 64 north which is the route I recommend. That takes about 3.5 hours not including stops. The Grand Canyon is one of my favorite parks and while on the South Rim I like to stay at the Maswik Lodge (first choice) or the Yavapai Lodge. I don't like to stay right on the rim at the El Tovar Hotel, Bright Angel Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge and Kachina Lodge. I don't care for the great number of people in the area although you may not mind that. The views just outside those lodges are among the best in the park. I like the Maswik because it's about a quarter mile from the rim and village (short walk) and is in a much quieter area. I like the Yavapai Lodge for the same reason but it's about a half mile from the rim, farther from the village and spread out over a large area. Depending on your accommodations you may have to drive down to the Market Plaza where the cafeteria and shuttle bus stop are located. This is not a problem at Maswik as the buildings are situated closer to each other and you're never more than a hundred yards from the cafeteria and shops. Go to the this web page and download the PDF version or the Park Map, Grand Canyon Village Map and Panorama Map. Use the alternate links if the primary links don't work. You can use these maps to plan your activities. http://home.nps.gov/applications/hafe/hfc/carto-detail.cfm?Alpha=GRCA# Things to do: 1. See the Grand Canyon Village area. There are many shops and the views are awesome all along this area. Drop into the historic El Tovar Hotel if you want to and browse through the Hopi House across the driveway from the El Tovar. 2. Take a short walk down the Bright Angel Trail but be careful not to go too far. You're at 7,000 ft elevation and if you you're not used to the thin air this will make the hike out a whole lot harder than going down. 3. Take the park shuttle out to Hermits Rest on the West Rim for more great views. Stop at some or all of the viewpoints and consider hiking the rim trail that interconnects the viewpoints. You can hike from point to point and jump back on the shuttle when you want to. You can see Granite Rapid from Pima Point. This is one of the fiercer rapids on the river (been there, done that, one of my favorites). 4. See the Canyon View Information Plaza then walk out to Mather Point. Walk the 1.1 mile paved path from Mather Point to Yavapai Point where you can reboard the shuttle or continue walking the remaining 1.75 miles to the village. It's paved all the way and a very enjoyable walk. I once saw a squirrel get treed by a fox in this area. Great family photo ops along the way. Just ask someone else to take the photo or carry a light tripod. 5. Take your car to the East Rim out to Desert View. More great views and you'll notice that the canyon gets shallower as you go east. Stop at the Tusayan Ruin and Museum. You might want to do this on the day you leave the park and after seeing Desert View, continue east to exit the park. After exiting the park you'll enter the Navajo Indian Reservation. The natives have setup a number of roadside stands. There you'll find some beautiful Navajo jewelry and crafts. You'll also find some Hopi jewelry there. The Hopi Tribe does not have access to the highway so they lease the space from the Navajo. The shops are not all grouped together so don't spend all your money at the first stop. Buy it if the you like it and the price is right. Otherwise, move on but don't count on there being more shops down the road. There may not be. If you exit through the east, continue on 64 east then take 89 south back to Flagstaff. Along the way you'll pass the Wupatki National Monument. There are some interesting ruins there that your 12 year old will enjoy. Be sure to see the "wind spirit" and stand over the blow hole for the refreshing wind that blows up out of the ground. From Wupatki, you can continue on to Phoenix for your flight home. However, if you have time I suggest you take your 12 year to see Meteor Crater. It's located east of Flagstaff on hwy 40. Take exit 233 at Rimmy Jims and go south on Meteor Crater Road. You can't miss it. Very impressive. Lots of meteors in their museum too. As for Sedona, I personally didn't care for the place. Too touristy and "new age" for me. Have a great time.

Is 30 minutes enough time to change planes in LAX

Is 30 minutes enough time to change planes in LAX?
Im trying to book a flight on US Airways and was wondering if that is enough time to change planes on a flight from phoenix on new year's eve? If not, i can go with a more expensive option which is 45 minutes... Thanks a lot! Im used to having at least 3 hours to change planes in airports and this is a bit of a change for me haha I could also change planes in Denver, but something tells me thats just a bad idea during the winter months...

If it's in the same terminal then it should be fine. If you have to change terminals then no.
2 :
30 mins is very tight, and allows no time for flight delays, deboarding, finding the next gate if it in the same terminal, etc.. You've already mentioned your past experience of 3 hours+ and I would say that through LAX you need to allow at least an hour (same terminal) upto 3 hours+ if changing terminal/airlines.
3 :
There is no way that I would risk anything less than an hour for the same terminal or three hours if you need to change terminal at LAX. This is just one of the worlds busiest and, in my view, worst organised airports in the world. If you need to reclaim bags then even an hour will not be enough. I have known waits of over an hour for bags to come onto the belt at LAX.
4 :
30 minutes is not enough time. if there is a delay or if your seat is in the back of the aircraft, then you will most likely miss your connecting flight.
5 :
I assume you are flying into LAX and connecting in Phoenix. US Airways has a lot of gates in Phoenix and unless you know the airport layout really well, I would say 30 minutes is extremely tight. Many times the gates close 20-25 minutes before departure so I would not want to chance it. Also know that if the first segment of your trip is delayed, you may miss your connection.
6 :
is this same airline or different airlines you dint say if the same airline you will be fine but if not the same airline then no its not enough too bad you did not tell us if this is same airline or not it would have helped too bad :(
