From Newark it should take about 5 hours, depending IF the airlines are running on time.

5 1/2 hours on the way there (against the jet stream) and 5 hours on the way back. US Airways and Continental have direct flights.

I also used to live close to Newark Have to give mention to JJ's Hotdogs on Bloomfield Ave ;-) But I moved to the Phoenix area years ago. We find that the flights will run about 5-5 1/2 hours if they are running on time. We prefer non-stop direct flights. As bad of a reputation sometimes, Continental & America West (which has been renamed to U.S. Airways?) did a decent job getting us back and forth. We always selected the first flight of the morning, or a red-eye. Good luck in your travels!
